The Lunar Eclipse is when the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow and you can watch the Moon “disappear” for a bit. It has been an astronomical event witnessed by humans for thousands and thousands of years. Many of our ancestors marked the event with a ritual of some sort so I thought I would do the same. I came up with my own ritual activity with a Tarot Card pull that is deep and meaningful and a release of anything you want to have eclipsed by the Moon.
I did a quick search on Lunar Eclipse rituals and found this lovely site that has the Tarot Card pull as a part of it. I took a few ideas from there and merged it with my own experience and background to come up with this lovely ritual. It can be performed ideally today/tonight (March 13) but is also effective on March 14 as well.
Lunar Eclipse Ritual
MOOD: Set the mood. Find a quiet space, light a candle and/or incense, and play some meditation music.
MEDITATE: Close your eyes and meditate for a few minutes - breathing in love through your nose and releasing all other energies through your mouth. Visualize yourself in a place of nature relaxing and connecting with the energy of Mother Earth and Father Sky. Feel your body begin to relax, your brow get smooth, your shoulders come down from around your neck, your belly soften, and so on. Ask your guides or higher self to join you during this ritual and help guide you into a productive and fruitful ritual for your best and highest good.
TAROT CARD PULL: Take out your favorite deck of Tarot cards (or the deck you are pulled to at this moment) and shuffle them stating your intention that you be guided through the eclipse’s transformative energies with grace and ease.
Write out the 6 labels for each of the cards for this Tarot Card pull - you will be pulling a card for: Current Energy, Eclipse’s Impact, Hidden Influences, What to Release, What to Embrace, and Outcome. Place these sticky notes or labels where you can fit your Tarot Cards above or below them.
Shuffle the deck and pull a card for each of these 6 labels holding love as the highest energy and asking your spirit guides/higher self to help.
Place each card near its label. I pulled them in the order shown here and that works.
Spend several minutes divining the message from the Tarot Card pull you have received, especially the What to Release and What to Embrace cards.
INTENTIONS/AFFIRMATIONS: Take out a piece of paper and pen to write down what your intentions/affirmations are around the Tarot Card pull and what you want to let go of with the magic of the Lunar Eclipse. READ each one of these out loud three times to invoke to the power of the Law of Sound. Here are some examples:
It is my intention that I release those beliefs that have been hidden from me that limit my future potential.
It is my intention that I release all that has been hidden from my consciousness for so long in order to move forward with grace and ease.
It is my intention that I release limiting beliefs about who I can be in this world.
I move forward with confidence and grace leaving behind past versions of myself that no longer serve me.
I emerge from this eclipse fully embodying my vast potential for good in this world.
I emerge from this eclipse ready to dance and partake fully in this one life I am living.
I emerge from this eclipse strong, confident, and ready to serve the higher good.
I am ready for whatever is next and face it with strength, courage, and love.
SONG: Sing, dance, or simply play a song to complete the ritual. This can be a song that touches your heart and/or helps you feel like your authentic and beautiful self or pulls you to be the best version of yourself.
THANKS: Give thanks to your spirit guides/higher self for the wisdom gained during this ritual. Thank Mother Earth and Father Sky and Grandmother Moon for their participation. Give yourself thanks for taking the time to complete this ritual for yourself for your best and highest good moving forward.
CLOSE THE CIRCLE: Turn off the music, blow out the candle or incense, and close the energy with a bow of your head and your hands held in thanks. Place your list of intentions and/or affirmations where you can see them over the next week.
I hope you will enjoy that ritual whether by yourself or with a friend or two. It is fun and magical to engage in this type of activity that coincides with the magic of the heavens.
So I did this ritual today and pulled a fabulous Tarot Card reading which I want to share with you below. It has personal impact for me but I also feel like it is a Tarot Card reading for all of us. It couldn’t be more perfect for where we find ourselves at this point in history and all that is going on in the United States government. So here goes…
Lunar Eclipse Tarot Card Pull
Current Energy: This is the Patience card (Temperance card in the Waite deck) and sums up my current energy but also for a lot of us. We are waiting to see what will happen to check and deter the current administration’s pull towards authoritarianism. Many court cases have been filed and we are waiting for Democrats to see what they will do to counteract these fascist impulses of those in charge.
Eclipse’s Impact: Deception and Envy (the 7 of Swords). This card is about revealing what is hidden and how we were deceived so I would predict the moon’s shadow when it passes all the way through the eclipse to reveal the sun’s reflection again that it acts as a Reset button. Things that were hidden from us about the deception will be revealed with more to come as the weeks unfold. This is the power and magic of the Lunar Eclipse. It is eclipsing the hidden to make it be revealed.
Hidden Influences: Fulfillment of Wishes (9 of Cups). This card reveals to us that despite all of this chaos and upheaval and dark times that it will eventually lead to things being structured in a better way based upon love, not greed. The Cups represent LOVE and that is what is influencing this current craziness--it will eventually leads us to a better government structure based on equality, true democracy, compassion, empathy, justice, and love. So hang in there.
What to Release: It’s amazing we got the Shadow card (the Moon) for what we are releasing. We are releasing the shadow or our worst fears that we have buried. We must confront what we have not wanted to look at before (think racism, inequality, immigration issues that are not fair, policies that hurt poor people, policies that discriminate against LGBTQ+, and so on). It is time to release them so that something new can show up in its stead. We must realize that the USA has not been great/fair/just/supportive and we must open our eyes to all the ways in which it is not so that we can move forward and correct what has not been good for everyone. If we never admit we have a problem with racism, can we ever work towards solving it? This is our chance to begin releasing/eclipsing these false beliefs about who the US is.
What to Embrace: And so, the deck then gives us HOPE (the Star card). What could be more perfect? We must cling to hope that we can change and that good will win eventually and we will course correct to become who we thought we were or who at least we thought we could be. This card is all about hope, faith, healing, aspirations, and enlightenment. This card reminds us that the impossible is possible. That seems like something worth embracing, no? It is a reminder to stick with your intuition, believe that it is possible, maintain a positive attitude, and shine your light for others to follow. As you wish upon a star…
Outcome: Then we have Stand Your Ground (7 of Wands). Look at the picture on the card. We stand up for who we want to be as a country and as a people. We stand our ground together and become who we want to be. That is the outcome I’d most like to see. Let’s do this.
I hope you found this uplifting and that it inspires you to do your own Lunar Eclipse ritual and Tarot Card pull to see what will inspire and uplift you.
